Bringing Innovation to Newton
ComfortCare Homes Newton's History
When Rob Patton’s mother was diagnosed with dementia, he looked for a residential care model to meet her needs. He knew she would thrive in a residential environment like her own home.
When he found ComfortCare Homes, he knew he found what he had looked for. While it was too late to make a life-changing difference for his mother, he decided to make this care alternative available to people facing Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia in the Newton area.
ComfortCare Homes Newton retains strong ties with ComfortCare Homes.
Where We Came From
ComfortCare Homes was founded in 1993 by the Stark family after they cared for their own family members with dementia. In the process of caring for the Stark grandparents, the core concept of providing dementia care in a true home setting to suit the needs of those living with dementia was born.

ComfortCare Homes was founded on the belief that clinical care in large impersonal facilities can elevate stress and increase confusion and that most people suffering from Alzheimer’s and dementia respond well to calm, familiar environments.

After opening the first ComfortCare Home, the Starks began to see their intuitive understandings create meaningful impacts on lives outside of their own family. Before long, ComfortCare Homes acquired several more residential properties.

In the last more than 30 years, ComfortCare Homes expanded across the city with nine homes, and across the state of Kansas through licensee partnerships in several other cities, including Newton.
